About the Event

The Media Careers Information Day (Glasgow) is one in a series of events which take place across the country. The event is wholeheartedly supported by leading media partners: Avid, BBC, Channel 4, the Guardian, Skillset, SMG and Scottish Screen. The partners value the event for the opportunity it provides not only to inspire and encourage budding ‘media professionals' but also to manage their expectations. Working in the best interests of the industry, we want to ensure that all those considering careers in the media are fully aware of what awaits them!

Through a large scale exhibition of media companies, training providers and other organisations/agencies; a full programme of information sessions; a hands-on area for technical demos and other activities; plus an ‘In Conversation' feature for Q and A with celebrities and industry professionals, we aim to provide our visitors with an enjoyable, informative and unforgettable day.

Each year the event attracts around 2000 visitors and we are hoping this will increase for the 2006 event. Entrance is strictly by ticket only, for which we charge £3 in advance and £5 on the day - this is to try and ensure that it is only those who are serious about media careers attend the event.

The revenue we receive from ticket sales also means that we do not have to pass on a charge to participating media companies/organisations, it's free to get involved – we fully understand how difficult it is for you to find time in your schedules but we couldn't make this event work without you, so we want to try and encourage as many of you as possible to take part.

We want to showcase the vibrancy of the media and creative industries, as well as the variety of opportunities on offer. We are therefore keen to include representation from the widest possible range of organisations and hope you will be able to support the event.

Getting Involved

All participating organisations will receive free publicity in the Event Guide and on the website (including a hyperlink).

In Conversation

On a specially designated stage area, we mock up a Chat Show setting and invite a number of key speakers/celebrities to participate in a more intimate Q and A session.

Hands On Area

A popular aspect of the event is always the Hands On area which enables the visitors to have a go themselves. Previous activities have included Reading from Autocue, Editing, Sports Commentary. Organisations are also very welcome to demonstrate their work through audio/visual means.
